Mobile Advertising using Universal Resource Locators (URL)

06.12.2008 1

Several months ago i ran across a couple of products: ShotCode & Semacode. Both of these small companies have created and are expanding technology knows as Universal Resource Locators (URL).

In laymans terms, its a picture that equals a website link.

Sample Semacode:

Sample ShotCode:

Here are how they are supposed to work.

1. Download the readers from the companies’ websites.

2. Once you spot a ShotCode or Semacode take a picture of it with your phone. It should then recognize the images as a URL and open the browser on your phone and take you to the website link.

Simple, eh? I’m waiting to hear back from the ladies and gents at Semacode on a few questions I have, but this isa pretty sweet product, with a million and 1 uses. Think about it… put the URL image on your Trackback posts on your blog, on forums, or better you business cards, posters at tradeshows, or even stickers and tag random places.

The possiblities are endless. There will be hopefully another post shortly when I hear back from Semacode.
